A Soccer Team Wears Mens Wigs?

mens_wigs
Soccer players in Finland take a break from playing on grass and play in the mud. The call the Swamp World Cup, and it is a nasty, sweaty, muddy mess. Players love the change, but realize playing mud is much harder than playing on the average soccer field. The game is chaotic as players slip and slide, losing complete control of the ball. A player explains, "The swamp makes your legs very heavy." Some teams use this particular World Cup as training. Others just have fun, wearing funny consumes and donning war paint. Some teams have each player wearing mens wigs, while other teams are wearing dresses. No matter the costume or the reason for playing, everyone- player and spectator, have a great time.

Would You Toss a Mullet Wig or Mullet Fish?

mullet_wig Have you heard of a Mullet Toss? Chances are you have not. Yet, in Galveston, Texas, people come from miles around to participate in a Mullet Toss Competition each year. While you may picture men tossing their mullet wig as far as the eye can see, they are actually tossing mullet fish.

The competition takes place on Galveston Island, south of Houston in the Gulf of Mexico. Mullet tossing is an activity the whole family can enjoy. There are five age divisions and competitions are further separated by gender. There is food, live entertainment, drinks, and even a bikini contest.

This year the competition will be held July 26 around noon. Proceeds from this competition go to the Snowdrop Foundation, an organization that helps families of the Texas Children’s hospital.

Long Wigs, Short Wigs, No Wigs

Short Wigs Tasmania, a state just south of Australia, decided to rid its courts of wigs. Similar to the wigs of England, these wigs were worn by Supreme Court Officials. Ewan Crawford, a Chief Justice, felt the wigs were dated and quite unnecessary to preserve the distinction of the courtroom.

Tasmanian wigs have gone through a lot of change over the years. In the 17th century, the wigs were made of human hair. The judges attempted to make their wigs as large as possible, feeling the size seemed to say something about their authority. During the 18th century, the large wigs were thought to be absurd, so the judges switched to short wigs made of horse hair. Nevertheless, wigs are still a point of contention amongst judges. Now judges rather have no wigs at all, though they seem to forever symbolize dignity and respect.

Costume Wigs Used in Taiwan

costume_wigs In Taipei, a group of very creative young people come together to dress up and play. They are called "Cosplayers" which combine the terms costumes and play. Taipei is located in Northern Taiwan. In this small city, there is a community center where the Cosplayers meet to act in their outfits. The costumes are inspired by characters from the PiLi Puppet Theatre. Cosplayers do not exist solely in Taiwan, but are Canada too. There, costumes are based on Anime and Manga characters.

Cosplay may be popular in Taiwan and Canada, but this fad is still very expensive. The costumes are not sold in stores because the characters are protected by copyright laws. Cosplayers try to save money by purchasing cheap costume wigs and inexpensive fabric. All the costumes are homemade. Despite the amateur costumes, Cosplayers spend a lot of time and energy on their production, choreographing dances to live music and creating backgrounds. In the end, all the hard work comes together and creates something truly fantastic.

Dads in their Elvis Wigs Entertain the Masses

Elvis_wigFathers of Northwestern Montana put on their best Elvis garb to star in a three day recital for their families. Over thirty dads took part in this event, meeting at the Whitefish Dance and Acrobat Studio to prepare for this annual event. These boogieing dads trained for weeks to perfect a dance that featured a medley of Elvis’s most famous hit songs. After six weeks of rehearsal, the fathers had perfected their show. As one would guess, the show featured classic Elvis costumes (with three costume changes) and standard Elvis wigs. The men did not wear makeup, but remained as natural as possible—explaining how the overweight washed-out look added charm to the show.

The most adoring fans had to be the children. A special performance for the families was scheduled during the last night of the three day recital. Screams of children could be heard throughout the audience. The fathers did not miss a step and some took the opportunity to show-off a bit. When the medley had ended, the fathers were met with a thunderous applause. The show was fantastic. Without a doubt, the show encouraged the fathers in the audience to want to be a part of this event next year. Hopefully Whitefish Dance and Acrobat Studio will be able to handle all the new recruits.
